
Maxine-Yasay Kemonogi Director/Produser/Writer 獸木野生 監督・プロデューサー・脚本

Born in Tokyo in 1960, is a Japanese graphic novelist and film director. He (non-binary) began his career in manga in the early 1980s, debuting in Wings magazine and launching her acclaimed PALM series in 1984. Known for her deeply character-driven storytelling, he has published over 40 volumes of PALM, along with several other works including The World and various illustrated books.
In 2022, he made his directorial debut with the independent feature film AppleEye. Initially joining the project as a writer and producer, he stepped into the roles of director, cinematographer, and technical crew (including lighting and sound) after the original director—who also served as director of photography and lead actor—was dismissed due to compliance violations.
Despite having no prior experience in filmmaking, Kemonogi taught himself cinematography, editing, and other production techniques through online resources such as YouTube. Over the course of the two-year production period, he managed the entire filmmaking process while continuing to work on other creative projects.

1960年生まれ。漫画家。大長編作品PALMを1983年より新書館Wings誌上で連載、ストーリーテラーとして知られている。
本作はストーリーとシナリオ、プロデューサーとしてスタートしたが、監督兼カメラマン兼主役のコンプライアンス違反による解任後、急遽役者とメイク以外の全てのポジションを受け継ぐ。
映画制作が元々の夢ではあったが(当時それが非現実的で漫画家になった)、全くの素人だったためYouTubeで逐一学びながら撮影・編集を行う。現場では音声、ライトやインテリアセッティングも自ら行うため、ダイレクションはシナリオとストーリーボードで毎回事前に行われた。
高齢と持病の神経機能不全のため脆弱で、カメラのピントが合ってるかどうかも確認困難、機材の組み立てもおぼつかず、特に撮影開始直後は関係者を不安に陥れたが、三主役とメイクアップ・スーパーバイザーから成るコアメンバーと参加者の協力、また完結寸前の本業の漫画連載も出版社から長期休載の理解を得て、撮影編集共少しずつ進行、制作期間2年余り(インディペンデント映画の場合通常最長半年と言われる)をかけて本作を完成した。
